14 February Family and Student Update

Dear Families and Students,

Last night I attended the 21C Greater Bay Area Awards at the Hong Kong Convention Centre. It was a wonderful evening, where schools across the Greater Bay Area were recognized for their outstanding achievement and excellence in education.

The final award of the evening, the Public Choice Award, was received by American International School where we placed first across all award categories for our outstanding efforts to promote and empower Student Agency K-12. Check out our winning submission here!

I am deeply proud of our TECHsperts, our faculty, and our Learning Activator, Mr. Green, for forging a new, innovative pathway that allows our students to truly lead and make a meaningful difference in our school community. This special recognition acknowledges this unique program that AIS has developed, and, equally important, ensures that it is shared with other schools in the GBA and beyond, positively impacting the opportunities students receive in other schools.

I would like to thank Ms. Abel, our Director of Learning Innovation, for supporting the work of our faculty and students as they implement a range of exciting curricular opportunities that deepen learning and enhance practice. I also wish to thank Mr. Ankul Sidana, one of our outstanding High School TECHsperts, who attended the ceremony and accepted the award on our behalf. Thanks also goes out to our PTA for promoting the award across our school community and, finally, to our parents, faculty, students, and staff who made this recognition possible.

Together, we make a difference.

Social Media, Gaming and Mental HealthSocial media and online gaming profoundly impact our children. While these platforms offer benefits, they also bring unique challenges, such as peer pressure, constant comparisons, and digital drama. This workshop aims to equip parents with tools to support your child’s digital well-being, address online pressures, and recognize mental health warning signs.18 February

The February issues of the Parents Make the Difference newsletters are here. These informative resources serve as excellent tools to support you in helping your child build skills appropriate for each age and stage of their educational journey.

Make sure to check out page 3 of the High School edition, where you will find how to encourage your teenager to make time for pleasure reading. Additionally, on page 1 of the Early Childhood edition, you can find some helpful strategies for helping your child create charts and graphs.

I highly recommend exploring the Daily Learning Planners as they offer valuable suggestions to facilitate dialogue and strengthen your bond with your children. Enjoy the meaningful interactions I’m sure these prompts will foster!
