11 April Family and Student Update
Dear Families and Students,
Please take a moment to review these important messages about PTA Nominations, Spring Break, and our monthly publications from Parents Make the Difference. Of course a newsletter would not be complete without some heartwarming photos of our wonderful students demonstrating what Social, Personal, and Applied (SPA) learning looks like in action!

2025-2026 PTA Executive Committee Nominations
It’s that time of year when we are now calling for nominations to the PTA Executive for the 2025-2026 school year. Being on the PTA is a wonderful way to give back to the school and to meet and work with other devoted AIS parents. As most families are already aware, the PTA plays a key role in the life of our school.
By working closely with the Leadership Team, the PTA provides a wide range of special activities for students and fellow parents that enhance programming and school spirit. From bake sales, to movie nights, to our annual Winter Fair, PTA parents make an incredible difference to the school experience and school spirit.
I am extremely grateful to share that the following members of the PTA have offered to continue to serve or to serve on the Executive Committee in the positions below for the 2025-2026 school year:
PTA POSITION | PTA NOMINEE |
President | Ms. Jennifer LUI |
Vice-President | Ms Vivian CHAN |
Treasurer | Ms. Cindy LI |
Sourcing Executive | Ms. Julia CHIU |
General Executive | Ms. Ping Amy (Ice) LI |
General Executive | Ms. Colly NG |
This is an excellent year to offer to join the committee, particularly as a General Executive Member. With the offer to return to the committee from such a strong group of Executive Committee members, it is an ideal time to learn how the PTA works from these experienced parent leaders.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about being on the PTA, or if you would like to be a part of the PTA Executive next year. You can also nominate someone to the Executive Committee by completing THIS FORM by Wednesday, 30 April.
PTA Easter Surprise!
Students across the school enjoyed the PTA Easter surprises on Thursday, 10 April, in celebration of the Easter holidays. Everyone had fun reaching into the goody box to choose a different treat!
National Security Law Day – 15 April
Since the passing of the National Security Law (NSL) of the People’s Republic of China on 1 July, 2015, 15 April has been designated as National Security Education Day and is celebrated annually.
At AIS, we embed NSL concepts into a variety of lessons throughout the year where they best fit naturally, and we officially observed NSL Education Day this week, by highlighting a special, grade-appropriate lesson in each homeroom to help students further build their understanding of the law, and their rights and responsibilities as residents and citizens of Hong Kong. We chose to mark NSL day this week, as we are away on 15 April for Spring Break this year.
National security is important to countries around the world, and the lessons studied focussed on a range of themes such as “Safety and Security,” and “Rules, Rights, and Responsibilities.” As an international school community, our students, faculty, and staff come from many countries around the world. We believe that understanding the culture and laws of the places we live and visit is an important part of being a responsible and informed Global Citizen!
Spring Break
Families are reminded that Spring Break runs from Monday, 14 April – Monday, 21 April. We look forward to welcoming students back on campus on Tuesday, 22 April. I hope all students and families enjoy the week away.
Parents Make The Difference
The April issues of the Parents Make the Difference newsletters are here. These informative resources serve as excellent tools to support you in helping your child build skills appropriate for each age and stage of their educational journey.
Make sure to check out page 2 of the Early Childhood edition, where you will learn how to inspire your child to write an acrostic poem about the spring. Additionally, on page 4 of the High School edition, you can find some helpful strategies to build your teenager’s self-confidence.
I highly recommend exploring the Daily Learning Planners as they offer valuable suggestions to facilitate dialogue and strengthen your bond with your children. Enjoy the meaningful interactions I’m sure these prompts will foster!
Happy Spring Break, everyone!
My best,
Anita Simpson
Head of School
